Craft Room Challenge No 10 – Felines

It’s challenge Tuesday again, and I can’t quite believe that we have now reached our tenth challenge.  We have such a great following of people now it’s just amazing just how many of you very talented people love to take part in our challenges.  This theme has been set by Zoe, who besides being the most talented artist is a great cat lover, so I wasn’t surprised when she came up with the idea.
I did have to rack my brains somewhat as I’m more a doggy person, with the corresponding stamps to match, but then I remembered I had got a freebie stamp from Craft Stamper a while back, Le Chat Noir, so I had a look what else I could use and couldn’t resisit using the wonderful Hero Art Stamps, Wish You Were Here, and they were in proportion to the cat so wouldn’t look silly.  So Here’s how I made it.
I stuck  2 A5 card blanks together to make a trifold card and covered the middle section with some green K&Compnay paper from my stash, then took a piece of Basic Grey paper that looked so much like a wooden floor and stuck it on the bottom of the card.  I then distressed the edges with Tim Holtz DI.  Next the chandalier was stamped in Versafine and the chair was stamped twice in Memento, once on white card and once onto a piece of Hello Lucious from Basic Grey.  The frame of the chair was coloured with Promarkers, and the seating cut out from the paper and stuck on.  The cat was stamped in black and embossed with a holographic embossing powder, and two tiny jewels were used for the eyes.  The mat is a circle cut from a Nesties die and cut in half.  Two seperate slits were cut at the back of the card to give the 3d element, and the chair and cat glued onto these.  I made the skirting board from a small width of copier paper and embossed to lines to give a detail effect.  I stuck these on once the two 3d slits had been cut.  Finally I stamped the table and lamp against the wall, went over appropriate areas with a Sakura glitter pen and the very appropriate sentiment was placed in the corner.  I really did enjoy making this fun card.

New Molly Blooms Card

I was inspired to make this card by the challenge over at Colour Create, and the colours to be used were Lime, Aqua and White.   I was getting the urge to make something cute again, as I haven’t done cute for a while, and I’m not ashamed to say that I do like ‘cute’, and I especially love the Molly Bloom range of stamps, so here we go.

I have just treated myself to a Grand Calibur and was itching to try some of the Grand Nesties, so I used the largest out of the Labels 11 set to make a card blank (I had to use an A3 sheet of card for this), and I turned it into an easel shape.  Layered the base up with alternative American Crafts card in Aqua and white, finally running the last layer through an embossing folder and sanding.  The AC card is really good because it does have a colour core, and is a much more reasonable price alternative to Coredinations.  I tied some white grosgrain ribbon round the middle of this layer followed by a piece of lime green organza ribbon on top. With love was stamped and mounted onto some lime green AC card and attached using 3d foam.  I popped a white flower and some hat pins onto the bow.  The top of the the easel card was made by cutting a frame with the Nesties, and running it through the embossing folder and sanding, this was mounted using 3d foam.  I stamped the table, cakes and Molly onto some white card and coloured with Promarkers.  The background was also done with Promarkers  highligts were added on the images with a white pen.  Sitting Molly was stamped twice, once onto white card and coloured, then once onto some striped paper.  The tunic part of this was then cut out and glued to the 1st image.  The banner was stamped twice, coloured with Promarkers and attached to the top.  I really enjoyed making this card, the colours are a lovely combination.

Craft-Room Challenge – Anything Christmas

Hello everyone, I have been a bit quiet on the blogging front recently due to the fact I have had terrible flu.  It put me out of action for a good two weeks, but I’m feeling fine now and hope to get lots of blogging done over the coming week.

I got to choose the theme this fortnight for Craft-Room Challenge, and   as it’s getting to ‘That’ time of year again I have chosen ‘Anything Christmas’.  So feel free to add as much Bling or Glitz as you wish on your cards, gifts or decorations.

I got my inspiration this time from the fabulous Andy Skinner stamps that I have just received in the Craft-Room Shop.  As soon as I saw the angel I new my colour theme would be cream and gold with a touch of red.  Here’s how I made the card.
A 34cm x 16cm piece of ivory card scored at 13.5 and cm,29.5cm.  The front of the card was covered with some Coredinations cream embossed card from my stash, and sanded to give it a vintage look.  An aperature was cut from the largest Nesties labels set, and a frame cut in gold mirror board from the two largest Nesties.  I used a magnetic plate this time to put both the dies on, and I must say this proved a real succuess, no more tape to try and stop the dies from moving, I can really recommend this.  On the waste piece of mirror card that was left when I cut the frame, I stamped twice with the script stamp from the set using Versamark, sprinkled with gold embossing powder and heated.  I must say I was a bit dubious as to how the script stamps would emboss as the writing is quite small, but it was brilliant, and none of the detail was lost, great stamps Andy.  The angel was stamped and embossed with gold onto ivory card, coloured with Antique Linen, and Vintage Photo DI and a touch of Fired Brick was added to the wings.  Finally a 4cm x 16cm piece of mirror board was run through a TH embossing folder and attached to the flap and the Peace sentiment was stamped and embossed in gold again and mounted onto an offcut of the mirror board.

That Masai Warrior

This is quite a fun card to make useful for all sorts of occasions. Using the Large Clarity Masai Warrior stamp first in memento black masked it and stamped the small Masai Warrior block stamp in Distress Ink Aged Mahogany. The first Masai’s robe coloured with Pro Markers and then the image masked so that just the robe was visible, the robe was then over stamped with a Fiskers border stamp Dots, in Encore Gold ink. The grounding of the two warriors was made with more DI on the edge of the Clarity handle and just touched in place.

More Home Decor – Craft-Room Challenge

This time our theme has been chosen by Maria, her excellent choice is home decor.   Make, alter, distress, re-cycle anything you want so long as it can be used in some way as home decor.

For the chalk board this started with a child’s blackboard from The Works.    Painted the wood frame red with a Memento ink pad after first covering the blackboard.   The ink needs time to dry on the wood so left it over night.    The frame was then stamped with Tanda stamps from their Art Deco sets, the roses on the rose border were highlighted with Glossy Accents.   While that was going off some red metal was cut to fit inside the frame and trimmed.  Using stayzon more Tanda Stamp images stamped onto the metal.   Metal stuck to the blackboard with strong ds tape.

If you look you probably have something at home that you might like to revamp it would be lovely if sometime in the next fortnight you gave it a new lease of life and shared it with us at Craft-Room challenge.   If you display the Craft-Room shop logo and a link you will be entered in the random draw to win £10 to spend at the shop.

Craft-Room Challenge No. 8 – Home Decor

We have another great theme here at Craft-Room Challenge, and I can’t quite believe that we are now on our 8th challenge. This time our very talented Maria has chosen the theme of Home Decor, and I know she particularly loves this kind of project, and her wonderful sample shows just how good she is at it. The rest of the DT have produced some outstanding pieces, and I am sure they will give you lots of inspiration.
As usual there will be a £10 prize to spend in the Craft-Room store, and this will be randomly drawn at the end of the two weeks.
I have never done a piece of home decor before, so I decided I would go for something fairly straightforward.
A piece of Tando 8×8 chippie was the starting point and an aperature was cut from it, and covered with some lovely Prima paper to create a frame. I was going to use a photo, but I love these Tim Holtz stamps so much I decided to use them, and the main image was stamped onto a mottled paper with Versafine and simply aged with Distress ink pads. The corners were again chipboard which were run through an embossing folder, then aged with Distress Inks. I gave them a blast with the heat gun to make sure they were dry, then went over the raised sections with a clear embossing pen, sprinked with gold detail embossing powder and heated. Once the powder had set and cooled I went over with sandpaper to give more of a distressed look. I coloured some seam binding with Distress Inks and tied round the frame, finishing off with a Prima trinket. The photo was placed on the back and a further piece of chippie was put over it to seal the frame. I stamped the sentiment and tapemeasure onto cream card and used Distress Inks again. The chain was fixed to the back to complete the wall hanging.

Framed

This little Tando frame and base comes with two smaller frames nested within it.    Using these to make an easel frame for the cheeky Tando Stamps Kitten seemed like a good idea.   The floral design’s are from Tanda as well.  Stamped the cat and coloured it with pale orange Promarker, Glossy Accents used to brighten the eyes.   Cut the image out in such a way that it could sit over the edge of the frame.  Stamped and embossed the floral images and the ladybird coloured them with Promarkers and then sealed them with glossy accents.   Next Distress Inks blended over the backing and the frame and also the two smaller frames used as an easel.     Stuck everything together with Eco-Green Glue and added a vellum butterfly.

Guess what, you can find a lot the things used in this project at Craft-Room!

Creative Expressions Vintage Photo plate

If you are stuck for a card for a man and the man in question enjoys taking photographs you might like this set by Creative Expressions its been around a while but is new in at the Craft-Room.   I was thrilled when Julia got this set (and one or two others) in, gave me an excuse to get the set out again.

Using a DL card on it’s side Tattered Rose, Crushed Olive and Aged Mahogany blended on to it.    The film strip stamped down one side and lined up on itself to extend it all the way down.   The little silhouette stamps fill some of the frames.   The man with his camera is stamped onto deep red  card cut on a nestie and then edged with gold leaf pen.    The sentiment stamped and gold heat embossed on more gold edged card.
