Craft Room First Challenge Card

Hello everyone and welcome to the first ever Craft Room Challenge. Zoe has worked so hard in setting up the new blog and organising the DT, thank you so very much Zoe, I really couldn’t have done this without you.

The title for the first challenge is anything goes.  I thought long and hard about what to do and in the end it was an easy decision.   I know a lot of you who receive the Craft Room Newsletter have been following my little 15 year old long haired Dachshund Fritz and his trip to the vets, and I have received a lot of get well messages from all you lovely people out there.  I’m very very sorry to announce that unfortunately Fritz passed away last weekend, all so sad, but I suppose that’s the one downside of having pets.  Anyway my vet and his staff were wonderful with him so I wanted to make a thankyou card for them, so here it is, hope you like it.

I have had this set of dachshund stamps for months and never got round to doing anything with them.  I love the main image of the dog wearing the coat.  I decided to make an easel style card and I used an 8×8 card blank as the base, scoring one side at 4″ to make the easel.  I then cut a piece of card to 8×8 and covered with the spotted paper, and an 8×8 piece of ‘bark’ paper was used on the base, both of which I’ve had for ages. I used a 6×6 piece of card for the scene and I started with the Molly Blooms garden border and stamped this three times in a continuous row.  I created some masks by stamping onto  sticky notes, and used these to cover the stamped images on the card.  I then used a fence stamp; again I had had this for ages and never used it. I stamped this over the mask three times matching the fence panels, then removed the flower masks.  Promarkers were used on the sky and grass and to colour in the border.  I stamped the dachshund, flower pot and flag banners onto white card and again used Promarkers to colour, I then cut all these out, and finally stamped the thankyou onto the card.  The finished scene was mounted onto blue card before being placed onto the brown which had raffia tied round it,  this was then attached to the base of the easel to make the card complete.   The dog and flowere pot were placed on the card using silicone glue, and the banners using wet glue.  I’m not usually a ‘sticker’ kind of crafter, but I found the saying and paw prints that were used on the inside of the card at the bottom of a draw, I think they had been in a set of papers I purchased a few years ago, so it only goes to show NEVER throw anything away!!!!
